Bonjour ! My name is Samy. I hold a MA in French for Foreigners.
I teach younger students, as well as adult learners.
My accent is very standard French, as it is spoken in Paris and in most parts of France.
As a qualified teacher in France and UK, I am very familiar with IB exam specifications, and I have helped many students reach excellent results (A* standards) at the City of London School for Boys ('14th Best School in the UK for A-Level' - Best-Schools.co.uk).
I have been teaching in private schools in London, and previously in France and Croatia, and in Aiglon College, in Chesières (Canton de Vaud), near Montreux.
I provide online tuition to Geneva expats. I have had many online students from Geneva, and I know how frustrating it can be to live in a French speaking area, without being able to speak the local language with confidence.
You could be learning from the comfort of your home/using your workplace computer.
I am very experienced (200+ hours) with online French tuition, on Skype and Zoom.
Why should I consider online tuition?
I offer the flexibility you need when your busy schedule gets in the way of learning French in the long run!
It might be scary at first, but my experience with my students is that they get equal results than with 'regular' tuition - if not better, for some.
There are no distractions online and all my attention is on you. It is easy to save material so you don't lose it, and share via Google Drive for example.
We can do things that a lesson in person does not allow, such as working on a video clip.
Obviously you need an internet connection that is reliable enough.
I offer a refund in case of technical difficulties/in case you don't like online tuition and decide it's not for you.

Most of my students from Geneva have lessons before they start work, at lunch time, late in the evenings, or on weekends.

We will also mention the best time to meet online.
The FREE lesson can take place through Skype, or Zoom.
How does it work?
Before each lesson, I will let you know what we will cover.
At the beginning of each lesson, we will revise what we have covered before, so that you don't forget when life gets in the way.
At the end of each lesson, we will make plans on what to cover next.
I am very patient and encouraging. However, I also like to challenge you to reach your best, and build confidence. I do think confidence and motivation are key to the hard task that is learning a language, so I like to focus on your personal interests and identify your learning style, in order to keep your motivation alive.
I am very much focused on your short term/ long term objectives. I want the language to stick, and help you reach your goals.

How do you conduct your lessons with adult learners?

- Guided conversation (with correction and feedback), with my own list of conversation starters/topics
- Clear explanations of French grammar: always in context, with practical examples
- My own vocabulary lists, with cherry-picked words and expressions (conversational and/or academic), including frequent mistakes such as the dreaded 'false friends'
- Listening and/or reading material from selected texts/audio/video
- Homework tailored to your needs, personality and interests, so that you make the most of your time in between sessions!

- Following the specifications of the French IB exam
- By assessing the student's level and focus on improving the weak components (Listening/Speaking - Reading/Writing), as well as using the student's strengths, to build confidence
- By providing the student with my own tailored resources and exercises.
However, I expect the student to have his textbook and exercise book ready. A digital device is also a must if working on Listening.
- By setting homework for the next session, so that no lesson time is wasted away
- By sharing with the parent the necessary feedback to check for progress
